Job Description
Maximum-term contract until end 2027
The Role
The Data Scientist helps to develop and implement the strategy to achieve the desired BI Hub outcomes. This role will lead data analysis and modelling within the BI Hub to develop data-driven insights that can inform solutions to difficult business challenges and provide accurate and timely insights about College members.
Key Accountabilities include:
Work closely with key members from the IT Team to inform and support the application of business rules to the creation of daya models in the cloud data warehouse.
Generates information and insights from datasets and identifying trends and patterns, finding answers to specific questions, assessing quality of data.
Applies advanced analytical and statistical methods in the commercial world.
Applies strong problem-solving skills with an emphasis on product development.
Leads the design, analysis and visualisation of reports and dashboards using Power BI.
Supports the operational process of the BI Hub and provides input into their continuous improvement;
Actively support the Data Governance framework and identifies improvements over time;
Incorporates third party datasets into analysis and visualisation activities to enrich the insights available to the College.
Undertakes investigative work to determine future dataset requirements for the College.
Contributes to the development of a new reporting frameworks and data architect for the College.
Undertake other ad hoc analysis and/or reporting functions as required
Maintain data asset register and data catalogue
Actively support Business Intelligence Community and help data citizens in the College
Desired Skills and Experience
The Successful Candidate
In addition to relevant qualifications and experience, the successful candidate will possess:
Strong problem-solving skills with an emphasis on product development.
Experience using statistical computer languages (R, Python, SLQ, etc.) to manipulate data and draw insights from large data sets.
Experience working with and creating data architectures.
Knowledge of Azure Enterprise Data Warehouse
Experience working with Microsoft Fabric and Power BI
Knowledge of advanced statistical techniques and concepts (regression, properties of distributions, statistical tests and proper usage, etc.) and experience with applications.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills for coordinating across teams.
A drive to learn and master new technologies and techniques.
Relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent experience
