The Role
The Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) is seeking an experienced Indigenous Cultural Safety and Governance Lead to provide strategic leadership in advancing cultural safety, Indigenous health equity, ethical governance, and Indigenous Data Sovereignty across the College.
Reporting to the Head of Indigenous Affairs (Australia), you will work collaboratively across the organisation to embed culturally safe practices, strengthen Indigenous governance frameworks, influence policy development, and build meaningful relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander members, communities, Elders, and stakeholders.
This is a unique opportunity to drive systemic change by shaping organisational policy, supporting leadership capability, championing Indigenous-led approaches, and ensuring cultural governance principles are integrated into decision-making and operations.
Key responsibilities include:
Leading the development and implementation of cultural safety initiatives, policies, and frameworks.
Providing expert advice on Indigenous health policy, cultural governance, ethics, and workforce development.
Supporting the integration of Indigenous governance principles across organisational practices and decision-making.
Promoting Indigenous Data Sovereignty and culturally appropriate data governance.
Building and maintaining trusted relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, members, and stakeholders.
Delivering cultural safety education, guidance, and capability-building initiatives across the organisation.
Representing the College in relevant sector, government, and community forums.
Desired Skills and Experience
The Successful Candidate
To be successful in this role, you will be a strategic and influential leader with a demonstrated commitment to improving outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities.
You will bring:
Demonstrated expertise in Indigenous cultural safety, health policy, cultural governance, ethics, advocacy, or related fields.
A strong understanding of Indigenous Data Sovereignty principles and their practical application.
Proven experience building trusted relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, Elders, and stakeholders.
Exceptional communication, engagement, and influencing skills, with the ability to work effectively across diverse stakeholder groups.
Experience developing and implementing policies, frameworks, programs, or strategic initiatives.
Strong project management and organisational skills, with the ability to navigate complexity and drive outcomes.
A collaborative and culturally responsive approach, with the ability to lead change and foster inclusive practices.
Eligibility
Applicants must be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent, identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, and be accepted as such by the community in which they live or have lived. This is a genuine occupational requirement authorised under Section 14(d) of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW).
Experience within the health sector, professional associations, government, or peak bodies will be highly regarded.
