Job Description
Lead Fellow, Māori Health / Pou Ārahi
The Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) is seeking expressions of interest from Māori Fellows to take on the role of Lead Fellow, Māori Health / Pou Ārahi.
This is a unique opportunity to provide strategic leadership, advocate for Māori physicians and trainees, and help shape the College's direction in advancing Hauora Māori and health equity. Working in partnership with the Tumuaki/Head of Māori and Equity and Trainee Journey Lead, you will be a trusted voice for Māori members, supporting the College to deliver on its Indigenous Object and constitutional commitment to Māori health.
The Opportunity
This is a part time role 0.2-0.4FTE for a 12 month fixed term period, with the opportunity to extend to a maximum of 3 years. As Pou Ārahi, you will:
Champion Māori health priorities across College strategy, governance and operations.
Provide strategic advice to the Māori Health Committee and College leadership.
Support and mentor Māori Fellows and trainees, strengthening pathways into specialist medicine.
Foster meaningful partnerships with Māori health organisations and key sector stakeholders.
Lead and support initiatives that embed Hauora Māori throughout College education, training and policy.
Represent Māori physician perspectives across College forums and external engagements.
Desired Skills and Experience
About You
We are seeking a respected Māori Fellow who is passionate about improving health outcomes for Māori and supporting the next generation of physicians.
You will bring:
Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP).
A strong grounding in Te Ao Māori, tikanga and Māori health.
Strategic leadership experience and the ability to influence across complex environments.
Strong relationship-building and stakeholder engagement skills.
Excellent communication skills and sound judgement.
A collaborative approach, with a commitment to supporting Māori Fellows, trainees and the wider College community.
Knowledge of te reo Māori is desirable but not essential. The College is committed to supporting ongoing learning and development.
